What's the best anti-spyware package?

A subjective question - but what I'm really looking for is
light (system wise) real-time scanning and preferably free updates as well a s maximum coverage.

i use the combination:

- Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
- Spybot 1.4

what you mean by "real-time scanning"? real-time monitoring?
if so, i know Spybot can do it, although i dont use this option.

using both you cant go wrong... both are free and reliable in my opinion. i dont think there's a need to have spyware monitoring on 24/7 as spyware is only a real problem when you are infested with 20 of those. and to get to that point, you would have to neglect your computer for a while.... :biggrin:

Yup I meant realtime monitoring not scanning.I'm inclined to agree with you about not needing it but I was really thinking about my dads machine who still clicks on every link in every piece of spam he gets thinking it might be important!!.He can't understand why he get so many viruses as well as spyware.

Spybot got a realtime protection called Teatime..I'm sure it was that..

Adaware has a realtimeprotection in the pro/plus version, buy it, "buy" it, but try it - scanning the system at least 1x the day is more than enough imho
Also, realtimeprotection slows your system - not that usefull instead of hurting the system with a little scan :smile:

if u want the best , its PestPatrol . much much better than Spyware doctor and Ad-aware and the rest . pestpatrol has better live protection than ad-aware as well .

I use Webroot Spy Sweeper, not free, but who's care very good for me

Webroot's spyware sweeper is the best standalone program (based upon detection and removal of new and unknown variants). If you want a complete solution (firewall, anti-virus, spyware) then I suggest Panda Internet Security Suite and then Kaspersky

I dont recommend realtime spyware scanner since all it does is slows down your system unnecessarily. Instead, if you're so paranoid, schedule to scan your system every day and that should be enough protection for you.

My vote also goes out to SpyBot, Ad-Aware, and Spysweeper. Nod32, scans with advance virus protection and also finds adwares and spywares too, and very quickly i may add.

well i use xsoftspy for detecting spyware, and webroot as a firewall (webrott desktop firewall, trail is ending so i'll swithc to icc black ice firewall, or just search the full webroot version of it's firewall)

Sunbelt's CounterSpy is the best at keeping spyware away from your computer, although no free updates.

a locked down browser should keep most spyware away. run adaware once in a while to see if anything got through.

there really is no such thing as a single program for best..you need to use several.

ad-aware spybot & giant(microsoft) anti-spyware all together as freeware.

webroot spysweeper & spy doctor as paid programs, and xoftspy as well are good.

There really is no one single good anti-spyware app. I use AdAware SE Pro in addition to Spybot and Spyblaster. AdAware tends to pick up tracking cookies and other nuiances better than Spybot, but in the rare case I've been infected, Spybot has at least identified the cause of the problem.
