The James Bond series - what has it become?

After watching the last two movies with Daniel Craig, just like probably anybody else, i noticed that since the Brosnan era, a lot of things have changed.
No more real Vodka Martini, no more laser-shooting watches, lots of dark brutality, and Bond himself falls in love. What the hell?

I have to admit: I was kind of shocked by the director breaking all those old traditions and habits.

But is this really a bad thing?

After thinking a while about it I came to the conclusion that in fact I like all those changes. The viewer gets to expirience a totally new and thrilling side of Bond's personality. Not a dull, slimy Mr Boring anymore, that loves to rely on fancy gadgets, but an exciting and living person that goes through reality, as harsh and dark as it is. I'm not sure if this picture of Bond is better - but for sure it is a pleasant change.

Okay, that said, I want to hear your opinion.
Do you think the directors have chosen the right path for the Bond series?

I think the change of directing is very positive.
I watched every single Bond movie and, after 20 films always showing the same, I am very pleased with the change of Bond's character in the last two movies Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

The crowd doesn't want to see any more of the super agent that never got hurt and always won. Of course, Bond's death is still no option, but his change as a character is huge. He gets much more personal and wants to take revenge for the death of his love in Casino Royale.

In my opinion, another movie like the old ones would not have had such success at the box office. We'll see what the next movies bring us, but I hope it's more of that new James Bond

In my opinion I miss the special "things" of James Bond. In the new movie he is not as elegant as in the earlier movies. In the past he was elegant and he did the different things very tricky.

Now he is more something like a killer and the special characteristic is a bit lost. So you can watch Rambo or other killer movies and it is the same.

Everybody first thinks like this, "the special 007-thing is missing". But I think this was really necessary to make the new Bond Daniel Craig acceptable to the audience.

I am sure that the further Bond-movies will get more oldstyle again, but it was necessary to bring some changes in the typical model after about 20 films.

Well, I love the older Bond films with their certain style.
But somehow they needed to take a little change. You could not always keep producing these films.
But still I hope, that the next ones will have the old "Bond-flair".

As the new film takes place before any other (Jes, it shall mark the "beginnig" of bond) one can accept the violence and the woman.
Bond himself hat to develop.

I don't think that the change of direction is good.
In my eyes the Bond Serie has become a stupid mix between too much action and a very bad story
And I don't really like the new Bond. The best actor was Pirce Brosnan, because he wasn't such a muscleman and dont't needed to shoot every enemy

But I heard that the last movie (A Quantum of Solace) was the last that this director had made.

Pierce Brosnan just embodies THE James Bond, absolutely true. I don't think there's any actor out there that fits better for the role in the traditional way.

But as I said before, these movies need change (just like America does/did ) and Daniel Craig is that change. When I first saw him, I thought that new Bond was a joke. But after 2 movies I started to like him and now I think the new Bonds are "up to date".

No doubt, that many people would like to see the "old" Bond return, but reviews show, that more than enough people like the direction the Bond series is going in.

Well, we will see what the next Bond will bring us (yes Creed007, you are right, Marc Foster, director of Quantum of Solace, will not return for Bond 23).

Something what makes me astonished is, in older "Bond's" the "Beliner Wall" already exists but in Casino Royal (The story before the Story) the "Berliner Wall" is opend...
But all in all i start to like Daniel Craig,too. He is a speciall person and plays the role of James Bond on his one way.

I like Daniel Craig even in his role as James Bond after Pierce Brosnan ,Sean Connery and Roger Moore he is different. On one hand he is very handsome ,attractive and charming , good body.On the oher hand he doesn't "give" the gentleman as we are used to see a 007 agent in the past. Instead of that we see more violence and film - action , a reflection of our time we are living in. Maybe the future Bond might be a cyber007,who knows!? Those were the days.

Yes, yes ... Daniel Craig is a great actor but I think Pierce Brosnan looked more like James Bond than Daniel Craig.

the original james bond, as written by Ian Fleming, is a broken, fallen men without any feelings for mankind and the society. killing a men means nothing to him. daniel craig personalize this kind of a bad "hero" (literally) more then all the other ones. no charming gentleman, no womenizer... he is hard, tough, egoistic and deadly...

for some romantic childhood memories i have great sympathies for connery and moore... but thats it...

@Lilie: Same here. I thinks it's mainly because many of us (including myself) grew up with this face connected to James Bond - We just never new any of the other actors, or how to accept a new one. When I watch older Bond Movies and see Connery's or Moore's face, it's difficult to accept them as the "real" Bond, too.

I think that this variation isn't so good because the last two James Bond movies have got to much action and to low storie.
All of the old Bond traditions and habits don't exist anymore...

I am very sad about that...Let's hope for the best

I miss old Roger Moore...he brought that "british bond" better then anyone else.
