Sony Home Entertainment on Wednesday announced the first 20 movie titles that will launch on the high-definition Blu-ray disc format, preempting a scheduled press conference by HD DVD slated for Wednesday evening. The titles will be available with BD-compatible players starting this spring.

Released first will be The Fifth Element, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Desperado, For a Few Dollars More, The Guns of Navarone, Hitch, House of Flying Daggers, A Knight's Tale, Kung Fu Hustle, The Last Waltz, Legends of the Fall, Resident Evil Apocalypse, Robocop, Sense and Sensibility, Stealth, Species, SWAT and XXX. Four Blu-ray titles will be released each month starting this summer, ramping up to 10 per month by the end of 2006. :top:

Isn't that the disc that cannot be copied? or am I confusing it with a brand of dvd disc? they could have picked better movies to test it with : (

wonder how much is the price  must be sky high
well, somebody has to pay the investigation xD, they just lend us the money

for hu doesent knoow blue ray are the disk whit 25gb capacity...IN OTHER WORDS THEY ARE THE FUTURE OF DVD... sony began the production on blue ray disk in japain in december 2005...ps3 olso has blue ray implimented...:top:

FYI, Blue-Ray discs are already in the making by external 3rd party companies. ^_^

If a disc holds 25gb how many gigs will the movie be. An average one now is about 7

The video quality must really kick ass but i doubt it will even use 20gb of space. Question is how much will the blu ray players, burner, and media cost :p

well, 25GB it's a lot, i wonder how much time it takes to burn one blueray dvd :)

anyway if games for ps3 use all that 25 GB of data, they will be kick ass quality,
i wonder what cooler has ps3, it may be even the major point of not releasing ps3,

I guess the 4GB encoded HD Xvid movies are gonna be coming along soon. :D Personally couldn't care who wins this format war, HD's are now 2GB per dollar in Canadian, and since they are better to archive as long as you store the HD in a dark cool place as impossible to scratch..., might as well use them. However I wouldn't mind a burner for either, 25 to 50GB of porn on a disk... *salivates Lol.

why does everyone automatically assume they will all use the 20gb of space, its a future format, that means it will probably only use about 6 gigs of space like most DVDs are now. they won't go to HD quality because its too expensive for the customers right now except for in japan and other places where the quality of DVDs kick ass compared to shitty american ones

Be careful-- this could be a betamax vs. VHS thing. HD-DVD players and movies are coming, and they are incompatible. Blu-ray uses blue lasers, HD-DVD uses ordinary red lasers but tighter specs. Microsoft backs HD-DVD, Sony backs Blu-ray.

Lol sweet i cant wait for it. But the battle isnt over yet against toshiba and sony. I doubt the quality will improve that much for now. Plus as the quality gets better you probably need a plasma hdtv. Lol when does a cheap blu ray burner come out :p
