Is DOTA a popular game in the US?

i''m from asia and around the region, Defense of the Ancients is a pretty hot game at the cybercafes.

any of you there in the US plays this as well? or is this just restricted to asia alone? it just became an official game in the asian WCG.. was wondering why isnt it global.

i wanna explane what dota is to others who dont play it

DOTA is a war craft 3 custom map and its very nice and balanced.

and yes its most played game in all regions. here in europe its in the top list. i personaly tired of playing it but due to the grate balance of that wc3 mod it has it own ranking and lots of sites have strategi guides.

dota is the most popular wc3 map on us east and us west servers ... personally I hate it and dont understand why its so popular

Extremely popular in US East and West. Just go to custom games at ANY time, and I mean any, even 3am, and there are PLENTY of dota games. I used to play, but recently stopped as realized it is pointless and stupid, but I understand why it's so addictive. Basically you play SO many games because YOU want to be the one killing everyone else, not just the victim dying so many times nor the ally who helps the kills. Since it's a 1/10 probability basically of getting that opportunity, people keep playing game after game trying to get their super hero-killer role. Anyways that's why I was so addicted.

alright. cool. good to know it's not only an asian thing. and i agree, the balance of the game is pretty good for a 3rd party mod.

haha.. i agree that war3 was a bit of a letdown for me personally. starcraft created a mountain that war3 didnt reach. but i was glad dota came along to justify me paying money for war3 ;P
