open movie with it
go to file menu and choose save image
there are two format it supports ".bmp and .jpeg" choose what you want.

it will record your image to my pictures folder in .png format

Yeah with virtualdub you get much more control.
BSplayer is also good, if you use in combination with FFDshow you can take a sequential number of screenshots like all frames from 00:01:10 to 00:01:20, or just press "p" while the movie is playing and use the left and right arrow keys to skip frame by frame.

Yes, Image Grabber 2 is a nice tool, I use it a lot. Open a file, say how many screenshots you want and save a gallery. It will look something like this:

The .net version have preview and can batch process files, use that one if you have .net installed. Or install it.
It you just want single screenshots, go for Media Player Classic: it can step frame by frame to get exactly the shot your looking for. Be sure to select an output mode that actually works for saving subtitles in.
