Hello all!:top:

If you're like me, you find it very annoying to go through the time consuming procedure of authoring a DVD, only to have the stanalone player for which it is made refuse to play it.:motz_6: Well, there are ways to minimize this problem. The kind of media, the brand of media, the way it was encoded and the burn speed all factor in. I used to exclusively use DVD-R's because I find them to be much more compatible with many more models of DVD player than DVD+R media.
However, there is a feature (available on some DVD burners) that will allow you to make your DVD+R's compatible with almost all standalone DVD players(even more compatible than DVD-R's). It involves changing the disc's book type or bitsetting. Basicly, a DVD you make at home is burned and recognized by standalone DVD players as a DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW ect, etc. BUT, a retail DVD is stamped, NOT burned, and is recognized as a DVD-ROM by standalone DVD players. Most standalone DVD players are picky about which DVD-R's and DVD+R's they will play, but virtually all will play DVD-ROM's.
Certain PC DVD burners allow you to the change the book type of DVD+R's and burn them as DVD-ROM. Thereby increasing their compatability with standalone DVD players greatly. There are software tools to find out if your burner(s) are capable of this feature, and enable it if possible. One is DVDInfoPro and the other is a Freeware app called DVDbitsetter which if found here:

both are great tools. Both of my burners did not have this feature, so I had to buy a new one. I purchased an LG GSA-H22N Super Multi DVD Rewriter, which is fully capable of changing the book type to DVD-ROM, and I am very happy with it. More information on DVD Bitsetting can be found here:
http://www.signvideo.com/btst-d.htm

And a list of players that support the feature can be found here:

Using Quality media also helps alot with whatever you burn. Verbatim, TDK, Taiyo Yuden, Fuji, Maxwell and Memorex are all Pofessional/Archival quality.
Anyways, I hope some of you find this helpful. I know it helped me alot.

Later Bro's,
