Its just the big multimedia companies flexing its muscles. They give money to politicians during campaigns, so now that their in office, they'll help them out a bit. Thats why p2p aren't getting any legislation thats helping them. In Sweden though its different, they've shut down many new proposed laws that were against p2p. Thats cause their politicians have not been corrupted yet and actually listen to the population... Whatever, this will push more users into secrecy software or anonymous/private networks.
 
Exactly @ scubascythan. The fines in america are very expensive since bush has implemented this new law. its about 10,000USD My friend that was running emule has uninstalled it. because of the fine, if caught!.
 
I'm glad they've caught Bin Laden, crushed terrorism, and stopped all other forms of crime. Now they can move on to more important things like those kiddies downloading mp3s.
 
It's hardly surprising, IP and media is one of America's biggest exports. Anything that harms sales in their eyes, directly harms their foreign account defecit. Of course, they haven't quite got the point about pirate copy != lost sale just yet.

why would we email the president, we need to be sending letters en masse to our respresentitives
